Abstract

Several accidents at railway gate crossings occur due to the impatience of crosser-by to wait for the train to cross the gate and decide to cross the track in spite of the gate being closed. Furthermore, in an unmanned railway crossing without gates, the risk is much higher. The lack of availability of data/instructions regarding the likelihood of the train to pass the level crossing leads to this perilous situation. This can be avoided if the crosser-by is alerted, when the train is at a pre-defined distance from the crossing. The major objective involves designing an intelligent railway level crossing system, which acquires data from sensors. The data acquired from the sensors initiates the micro controller to alert the crosser-by about the status of the train. This project also involves displaying the train speed and the average speed necessary to cross the level crossing before train arrives, which could be helpful for crosser-by.
