Hand Gesture Controlled Wheelchair for Specially Abled Person

A. Mohamed Sameer, G. Chandru, S. Sudhakar

Abstract

In this research work, we present a Wheelchair for elder, obese and disabled person. The wheelchair can be controlled by using simple hand gestures using Micro Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS). Depending upon the hand gestures, MEMS sends the signal to the Microcontroller and it generates the control signal which controls the wheelchair directions like Left, Right, Front, Back and Halt. Ultrasonic sensors are placed on the left and right side of the wheelchair for detection of obstacles and Camera is placed on the backside of the wheelchair for the rear view. RFID tag reader is used for security purposes.
