Phase Only Correlation based Attendance System

Abstract

Correlation based Fingerprint Recognition is widely
used in many applications. It is independent of the brightness of image and skin conditions. The major problem with this algorithm is that it is severely affected by rotation of the fingerprint to be matched. We have to calculate correlation at all angles which is inconvenient and time consuming. Also if query fingerprint is not complete i.e. if it is missing some part in elliptical area or if it is deteriorated by spreading of ink while taking the fingerprint, then correlation peak is severely affected. Hence, in this paper, we calculate correlation with four different parts of the image and select the average result. For this core is selected as reference point which is calculated by gradient field mask. We use Band Limited Phase Only Correlation (BLPOC) which reduces noise by extracting only desired frequency components in elliptical region of fingerprint. Also, rotation problem is solved by using Fourier-Mellin Transform. This algorithm has been successfully implemented as Fingerprint Based Daily Attendance System in a college.
