Making Business Activities Efficient in Bangladesh through Effective ERP Implementation

Abstract

This article provides recommendations for the effective implementation and exploitation of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems in business activities in Bangladesh. It takes especial notice of the strategic and tactical decision-making aspects in the pre-implementation phase and then goes on to evaluate the implementation phase itself separately. Much of the analysis was done between 2010 and 2011 and tested in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet districts, the business hubs of Bangladesh. The recommendations set out in this article are based upon qualitative research conducted into ERP implementation projects by Large and Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) in Bangladesh. After testing the recommendations based on this research, the efficiency and the success rate of the entrepreneurs increased significantly, increasing the business productivity almost by 30%. Although the enhancement of ERP may consist of significant obstacles, its final establishment in today‟s business will enhance Bangladesh‟s economy and thus is highly recommended for further pursuit.
