Transmission Performance of Hybrid 2 × 8 SCM/WDM System Based on EDFA, Raman and Hybrid Amplifiers

P. Sivakumar, Dr.A. Sivanantha Raja

Abstract

The combination of Sub Carrier Multiplexing (SCM) and Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) may provide a more flexible platform for high speed optical transport networks with high optical bandwidth efficiency. The combination of EDFA and Raman amplifiers provides high power gain hybrid amplifier. In this paper, the system configurations of two block SCM transmitter module that consist of eight (2×8) Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) modulated channel at the speed of 1.8 Gbps were reviewed. The work also investigates the performance of SCM/WDM system with different optical amplifiers like Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA), Raman amplifier and Hybrid amplifier. The performance results were evaluated by OptiSystem in terms of bit error rate, noise figure and received output power by varying fiber length.
