Designing an Architecture for Personalized E-learning System using Web Service and Semantic Web Technology

K. Palanivel, S. Kuppuswami

Abstract

Nowadays, E-learning has become the major trend of the development of education. E-learning system with personalization leads efficient learning results among different learners and their needs actively. However, the problem in the existing e-learning systems is weak semantic learning resources. Hence, it is proposed to design a personalized e-learning system with web services and semantic web technology. Web services ease the pain of managing different e-learning applications and make them to play together, hence, achieve higher level of interoperability. The semantic web provides distributed information with well-defined meaning, understandable for different learners. The proposed system consists of four types of web services – annotation, notification, personalization, authentication, etc. Using this system, the learners should be able to provide individually optimized access to content by taking the individual needs. Designing e-learning system using semantic web and web services enhances the learning process in an effective and dynamic way.
