Mitigation of Power Quality Issues using Distributed Generation based Custom Power Device

C.K. Sundarabalan, P. Sathishbabu

Abstract

Power quality issues have become more complex at all level of power system. Custom power devices are the effective solution to improve the quality of power supplied to the distributed system. Unified Power Quality Conditioner is one of the custom power device, designed to compensate both source current and load voltage imperfections. In this paper the design of distributed generation based unified power quality conditioner is proposed. The proposed system is composed of series active filter and shunt active filter with Distributed Generation connected to DC link which is able to compensate all voltage and current related problems simultaneously. The proposed system is able to inject the active power to grid in addition to its ability in mitigation of Power Quality issues in power distribution system. The simulation analysis is performed using MATLAB/SIMULINK.
