Peak to Average Power Ratio Reduction Techniques in OFDM Systems

A. Rajakumari

Abstract

To have a reliable and efficient transmission, single carrier wave is being replaced by multicarrier. Nowadays multicarrier system like OFDM systems are implemented commonly in wireless communication. In the OFDM system, orthogonally placed subcarriers are used to carry the data from transmitter to receiver. It improves the bandwidth efficiency. But the large PAPR is one of the short comings in multicarrier systems as it causes non linear distortion in the transmitter. In this project work we have reduced the PAPR by using various methods like signal distortion techniques, coding techniques, and signal scrambling techniques. Signal scrambling technique like PTS and SLM are studied. Combined signal scrambling techniques with coding techniques namely Turbo codes and Golay codes are investigated. It is discussed through simulation results that considerable reduction in PAPR can be achieved when powerful FEC is employed.
