Abstract

The compression system reduces amount of data need to transfer for same amount of information and thus band width requirement. The compression of data is necessary in order to transmit information with highest possible quality and least possible channel capacity. The aim of this thesis is to provide way to compress image without loss of quality of the image (lossless image compression) using run length coding(RLC) in mobile platform with java2 micro edition(J2ME)language.J2ME is often referred to as Java for wireless and mobile devices. J2ME is about making the Java programming language available on an ever large and more diverse set of platforms from the smallest of mobile phones to mush more capable devices, such as a television set-top box. J2ME addresses devices with minimal memory, communications bandwidth, power, and user interface capabilities. RLC is very effective lossless compression method. RLC provides high compression ratio by removing interpixel redundancy
