S. Baskar, N. Kumarappan, R. Gnanadass

Abstract

To investigate the capability of regulating power flow in Single Machine Infinite bus system using Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) is the main focus of this paper. This paper presents the dynamic operational characteristics of Unified Power Flow Controller using switching level model. The real & reactive power flow is controlled by varying the shunt converter firing angle and modulation index of the series converter. The simulation is carried out in Simulink based MATLAB environment. The simulation result proves that the UPFC makes the power factor of the system is unity and the total harmonic distortion of line voltage are effectively minimized. The proposed controller shows the good performance & effectiveness of controlling the real and reactive power and also damping the oscillation due to system faults.
