Practical Colorimeter for the Measurement of RGB Value in Chromaticity Diagram

D. Justin David, Roopa Jayasingh, Dr.K. Sankaranarayanan

Abstract

Colorimeter passes a colored light beam through an optical filter, which transmits band of wavelengths of light through a sample solution to the calorimeter‟s photodetector where it is measured. The difference in the amount of monochromatic light transmitted through a colorless sample and the amount of monochromatic light absorbed by the sample. Colorimeters used in clinical laboratories perform well. The problem associated with colorimeters is that, it requires a highly monochromatic source, which needs frequent calibration. The depth of the color is dependent upon the concentration of hydrogen peroxide and therefore the amount of virus in the original sample. The time allotted for the reaction is critical. The main problem in this is inaccuracy and psychological complications. The existing colorimeter is upgraded with RGB color sensor and Microcontroller and interfaced with the computer to make clinical measurement easier. Experimental results show that this modified colorimeter can perform better than the existing colorimeter.
