Psychology of Addictive Behaviors, Dependencies and its Treatment
Abstract
Any behavior can become addictive, while most addictive are those offering a quick reward coupled with a spike in brain dopamine levels. Gambling including Internet poker and sports betting, is some of the most common behavioral addictions. Drug dependence is a far-reaching issue which extends to society entire beyond the individual. While numerous drugs have addictive characteristics, the range of this evaluation is restricted to crack cocaine – how the body, particularly the mesolimbic dopamine system, is affected by alcohol impacts, biological alterations, and the importance of dopamine concentrations to addictive susceptibility.
