Source Localization Techniques for UWB Context Aware Applications

O. Ravi Kumar, G. Pradeep Reddy, Gerardine Immaculate Mary

Abstract

The problem of determining the physical location of a wireless emitter or source localization is commonly encountered in context-aware applications which are attempting to locate and track an emitter. In this paper we compare the different source localization techniques and propose “signals of opportunity” (existing wireless infrastructure) can be used as ad hoc navigation beacons and determine their location relative to a receiver and thus deduce the receiver’s position. We also investigate a bandwidth efficient method of TDOA (Time Difference of Arrival) computation which is used to obtain precise location estimates
